FanDuel Spreading The Love And Making The Washington Wizards A Winning Play

Written By Dann Stupp on January 29, 2021 - Last Updated on January 30, 2021

Think the Washington Wizards will win on Sunday? Or at least keep the game moderately close? If enough other bettors feel the same way, the game could offer some ridiculously advantageous betting odds.

Last week, Virginia sports betting formally kicked off in the commonwealth. FanDuel Sportsbook was first out of the gate and accepting wagers.

Now, FanDuel has a special “Spread the Love” promotion just for Virginia sports bettors.

And as Wizards backers continue to hop on the unique betting opportunity, the odds to win will only get better.

‘Spread the Love’ with Wizards vs. Nets

FanDuel is turning to its tried and true “Spread the Love” promotion. However, it’s the first time they’ve offered it in Virginia. In other states, FanDuel sports bettors could place wagers on their local teams, and the more folks who took part, the better it was for everyone.

VA bettors get their chance with Sunday’s Washington Wizards (3-11) vs. Brooklyn Nets (12-8) game. It takes place at Capital One Arena in Washington, DC, and it airs nationally on NBA TV at 7 p.m. ET.

The Wizards opened as 9.5-point underdogs at FanDuel. However, bettors have already guaranteed themselves a much better line because of the “Spread the Love” promotion.

Here’s how it works:

  • For every 250 bets placed in the special market, FanDuel will move the spread one point in the Wizards’ favor.
  • By Friday afternoon, the line of +9.5 had already grown to a staggering +65.5. (The Wizards could lose 100-35, and the bet would still be a winner at that line.)
  • The odds are -110 per wager, and there’s a $50 max bet.

Be careful: Be sure to place your bet from the special market/tab and not the regular NBA section to get the special “Spread the Love” line.

Perhaps the flood of wagering support will be just what Washington needs. The Wizards are struggling and currently in last place in the Eastern Conference’s Southeastern Division.

The team had lost three straight games heading into Friday’s matchup against the Atlanta Hawks. Before the skid, Washington shut down for nearly two weeks because of a COVID-19 outbreak.

Expect More Love for Washington Teams

Virginia is in a bit of a unique situation. After all, the commonwealth has no professional sports teams in the major leagues.

So, don’t be surprised if FanDuel and other Virginia sportsbooks lean heavily on Washington teams. Sportsbooks love to gear promotions and contests around the local sports teams. In VA, that will likely mean “Spread the Love” and other team-specific promos for the Wizards, as well as:

  • NFL’s Washington Football Team
  • MLB’s Washington Nationals
  • NHL’s Washington Capitals
  • Teams from neighboring states such as Maryland, Tennessee, and North Carolina

Sure, the Wizards might not be your team. Maybe you don’t even follow the NBA that closely.

But a Washington Wizards spread that could approach 100 points by tip-off? A rare chance to have a clear and substantial edge over the sportsbook? Those opportunities don’t come around very often.

After all, with such a lopsided line, even the Washington Generals could probably cover.
