If you want an almost-guaranteed-to-win sports bet, it’s time to “Hammer the Over” for Saturday’s Washington Wizards game.
The more people who take part, the better your chances of winning your wager. In fact, barring something just short of an act of God, this DraftKings Sportsbook special should be a no-sweat bet.
The promotion is for Saturday’s Washington Wizards home game against the Detroit Pistons (8 p.m., NBC Sports Washington). It’s also just for Virginia and Michigan bettors as their two local NBA teams battle it out.
And though the Wizards and Pistons have struggled this season, bettors of the two teams will get some substantial help.
How ‘Hammer the Over’ works
Every now and again, Virginia sportsbooks post what seems to be a too-good-to-be-true betting opportunity.
In this specific “Hammer the Over” promo, the total (the over-under) drops one point for every 400 bettors who place a wager. Usually, these types of group-effort betting specials result in an absurdly easy-to-beat line.
As of Thursday afternoon, the line stood at 122 points. You know, for both teams.
During the 2020-2021 season, the Wizards are averaging 113.8 points per game. The Pistons, meanwhile, are averaging 107.7. In other words, it would take both of these teams having an epic offensive collapse for your bet to come up short.
A few ground rules for the WAS-DET “Hammer the Over” promo:
- The maximum bet amount is $25, and those who opt in get +100 odds (bet $25 to net $25 in profit).
- Look for the “DET vs WAS to cover the Hammer the Over Total Points Promo (4/17)” special market under the NBA section.
- The boost expires this Saturday, April 17, at 8 p.m. EST (tipoff).
- It excludes live bets, parlays, cash-out bets, free bets, voided bets and odds boosts.
Rest assured that yes, bettors are no doubt already hammering the over as you read this.
Once you’re in too, sit back and enjoy what should be a stress-free winning bet.
So, about the Wizards …
With a 21-33 record heading into Friday’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans, Washington is fourth in the Eastern Conference’s Southeast Division.
But hey, it could be worse: The Pistons are just 16-39 and dead last in the Central Division.
Perhaps as no surprise, both teams are the longest shots right now to win the 2020-2021 NBA Championship. At FanDuel, for example, they each have +25000 odds (bet $10 to profit $2,500).
In fact, 11 other NBA teams have the same lousy, long-shot odds. They’re all chasing the Brooklyn Nets (+220) and Los Angeles Lakers (+350).
The Wizards, though, have shown some signs of life in recent weeks. The team had won four of five games while averaging 119 points per game heading into Friday.
Bradley Beal is leading the NBA with 31 points per game, a career best. Russell Westbrook (21.8 points, 10.8 points and 10.9 assists) is averaging a triple-double this season. In fact, the 32-year-old now has 170 career triple-doubles. He’s closing in on all-time NBA leader Oscar Robertson (181).
Now, kicking off a four-game homestead, the Wizards are looking for some late-season magic. And thanks to the “Hammer the Over” promo, we can all come along for the ride.
